Trace heating is resistance wire wound inside a flexible sheath either PVC or Teflon and can have a s/steel braided oversheat.

Although similar to MI cable it is much more flexible and can be used to heat up pipes, drainage pipes, tanks etc.At lower wattage's per meter trace heating is self regulating and thus does not need any form of temperature control.
